This print is a simplified version of “the Actor Ōtani Oniji III as the Servant Edobei” by Tōshūsai Sharaku, created during Japan’s Edo Period (1603–1868). The Edo-era saw the popularization of “ukiyo-e,” or “pictures of the floating world,” that included prints like this one!
